Weekly Bulletin: Staying connected as a church - 26 February 2023

Kia ora St John’s whānau,

We have entered the season of Lent this week with pancakes and ashes, as we journey toward Easter.

Will you give something up (certain food or drink) or perhaps take something up (a new spiritual practice, like quiet contemplation)?

This Sunday we will ordain three new elders: Eldred Gilbert, Jason Fyfe and Nisha George.

We have age-specific peer groups for youth and families, commencing part-way through the service.

And we also have the visit of the Salvation Army Cadets.

If you can’t gather in the city, and you want to join the worship service via Zoom, here are the details to access the live-stream:

EVANS BAY FUN DAY

Our plans for a picnic by the sea and lots of fun options for exploring Evans Bay near Hataitai Beach depend on stunning Wellington weather – and the forecast is NOT good for this weekend!
So, the Evans Bay Fun Day is postponed until 19th March.

SPECIAL CHOIR FOR EASTER

We are delighted to have a special expanded Choir for our Easter celebrations – no auditions necessary!

WHANAU NIGHT DATES

Plans are in place for Whanau Nights this year, with a wonderful team generating these special intergenerational and invitational events. You can put these dates into your diary.

WADESTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Wadestown Presbyterian Church congregation and Presbytery Central have decided that the Church will close in March. There will be a celebration of the long and amazing history with a weekend of events on 11 and 12 March that you might like to participate in – this is one way we can show our love and care for these folk.
On Sunday there is a Celebration service starting at 1:30pm lead by Revs Allister Lane and Chris Purdie.
We may have visitors from Wadestown coming to St John’s in the City, and I invite you to make them most welcome with us.

CWS CHRISTMAS APPEAL FEEDBACK

We supported the Christian World Service (CWS) Christmas Appeal ‘Let Hope Flow this Christmas’. We have received grateful acknowledgement of our giving and the difference it’s making, including the story of Caleb and his grandmother who now have their rainwater system installed! They are very happy and looking forward to the rainy season due in March.
