Welcome
Everyone is welcome at St John’s in the City. We know it can be a bit daunting going somewhere new and unfamiliar, so we’d like to let you know what a typical Sunday looks like. You’ll be greeted at the door by our greeters or host. They may ask where you’re from (we have visitors from all over New Zealand and from overseas) and they’ll be very happy to answer any questions you may have. If you have children, they are welcome to join our St J’s Kids or youth programmes. After the service, please join us for a cup of tea or coffee.
What to expect from our Sunday morning Worship service
The Sunday morning worship service starts at 10 am and lasts for around 75 minutes.
Worship is a mixture of traditional hymns and more modern worship songs. The mix changes from service to service.
We have a ‘Guide to worship’ pamphlet in each pew that explains the format of the service and its meaning in simple terms so everyone can understand what’s happening.
After the service, we have some time to catch up over tea and coffee, and we’d love you to join us so we can get to know you.
Children and Youth
Children and youth join the congregation in church for the first part of the service before leaving for their programmes; St J’s Kids and Youth Group. For monthly communion services this reverses; the children start out at their programmes and then join the service later.
Communion
We celebrate communion on the second Sunday of each month. Communion is conducted with juice and bread and everyone is welcome to take part. After our quarterly communion services (March, June, September, and December) we have a shared lunch in the St John’s Centre.
Parking
There is extremely limited parking on the church site, but plenty of options close by. Find out more about parking at St John's.
