Weekly Bulletin: Staying connected as a Church 14 November 2021

Kia ora St John’s whānau,

This Sunday we have All Age Worship.  This is intergenerational worship as we grow together in faith.

We will be together for one hour from 10am, exploring the question Jesus asks: “Who do you say I am?”

We know that the maximum numbers for gatherings under Alert Level 2 is 100.  So, as well as worshipping at St John’s in the City this Sunday, we also offer a live stream option. Here are the details for joining in worship via Zoom…

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A CHILDREN & FAMILIES MINISTRY WORKER

We are passionate about ministry with young people, and seeking passionate leadership for coordinating this in our midst. This part-time permanent position is for 18.75 hours per week with flexibility when the hours are worked. This role includes our gathered time as a Church community on Sunday mornings. Those interested in up to full-time equivalent work may also consider a harmonious position working with young people in a part-time Assistant Chaplain role currently advertised by Scots College. https://www.scotscollege.school.nz/scots-college-assistant-chaplain/

WHANAU NIGHT

Our next Whanau Night is Sunday 21st November and, because we are under covid precautions, we gathering in various homes.

Like last time we did this, the evening will centre around a meal, and we will offer an intergenerational faith experience that focuses on the upcoming Advent journey.
Also like before, we will have homes open around the city, and you will need to register to say where you’d like to attend. But this time, rather than the host family providing the meal, we are going to be going with a potluck. You’ll be asked to bring either a main course or a dessert to the evening. If you came last time, we encourage you to pick the same house, but you are welcome to try another out. We have 6 hosts currently preparing for a special evening. We have homes in Brooklyn, Johnsonville, Thorndon, and three houses in Karori.

Please fill in this registration form by 5pm on Wed 17 Nov. You will then receive an email on Thurs 18 Nov telling you the address of the house where you will go to take part in Whānau Night. Please note, you must register to attend.
We are currently at Alert Level 2, so in addition to us recording who is attending each home, we ask you not to attend if you are feeling unwell on the day

FELLOWSHIP GROUP

The next meeting is on Tuesday 30th November 2021 at 11 am in the Church.

Please note: this is 5th Tuesday of the month and in the 1st week of Advent.  So this will include a short Advent worship service.

MENTORING PROGRAMME

We give thanks to God for the first-ever 12 month Mentoring Programme which recently concluded. Next year, we are running our second St John's Mentoring Programme.

As part of our St John's inter-generational faith formation, this Mentoring Programme expresses our Mission Statement very well.

Will you be involved as a Mentor?  Will you be involved as a Mentee?

As the start of this Mentoring Programme will be at the beginning of 2022, we encourage you to register your interest early.

EXPLORING SCIENCE AND CHRISTIAN FAITH

Earlier this year St John’s hosted Winter Lectures about the intersection of contemporary science and faith.
New Zealand Christians in Science are currently running a series ‘Conversation is science and faith’ and you can hear recordings of recent lectures here.
