Weekly Bulletin: Staying connected as a church - 31 July 2022
Kia ora St John’s whānau,
How helpful are rules? …sometimes they keep us out of trouble.
It may surprise some that Christian faith is not about rules, but FREEDOM!
We will hear and celebrate this biblical truth on Sunday, as we worship together in the city.
If you want to read the Bible reading before Sunday, it is Colossians 3:1-17
And if you want to hear a weekly Rev’s Ramble on these Bible readings, click here. https://www.facebook.com/KhandallahPresbyterianChurch
We are back into regular term time, and so our youth and kids have peer groups on Sunday – going out part-way in the service.
If you want to join the worship service via Zoom, here are the details to access the live-stream:

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT
ART INSTALLATION AT ST JOHN'S:
LUMINARY
The artwork ‘Luminary’ is being installed today, and will be able to be viewed from this Sunday.
I’ve been imagining it hanging in the main church space, but the artist loves the intimate and ambient space of the Chapel. So you will be able to appreciate the artwork fully with the best light and proximity of the Chapel.
It is able to be viewed all week. Opening Hours: 10am to 4 pm (except Sundays start at 1pm)
Please diary to come and see it and tell others to visit too. We have pamphlets explaining the work and our own St John’s artworks. You can also bring food or cash donations for DCM in return for a Lumen print by Karen Sewell, the artist behind Luminary, which will raise funds for DCM in its help for Wellington’s homeless.
This is just one of the projects St John’s will launch to showcase St John’s and its work to the wider community as well as showing a fascinating art work as we implement our new vision of reaching out to our community.
Cost: Free St John’s in the City Church, Corner Willis St & Dixon St, Wellington.
ST JOHN'S VISION
We have articulated a fresh Vision for St John’s. And everyone is invited to get involved as we follow this Vision as a way to reform, restore and rebuild us as a Church.
Over several weeks we have had various presentations and discussions, and a summary of the Vision is available to read here:
“We explore and share the gospel with our dynamic neighbourhood. We create safe spaces to be, to belong, and to navigate the tough stuff. Getting to know God is a team sport – that’s why we do this together, not alone.”
Sunday 7th August is the day we will activate our Vision together, celebrating in the service and in a fun workshop setting after the service.
SOUPER SUNDAYS
Over Winter Marg Gilkison is organising a team to host Souper Sundays.
The yummy soup and bread, tea and coffee is provided and you are invited to bring something to share with the tea and coffee after our soup ( eg: slice, biscuits, fruit). It’s as simple as that, and there is no cost!
We have divided the congregation alphabetically into four groups
29th May (A-F )
26th June (G-L)
31st July (M-R)
28th August (S -Z)
Please come another time if you can't make it on your designated date. All visitors are welcome to please join us.
